winter is coming

Mast Heating & Cooling Announces New Furnace Mandates

News flash: winter is coming. Admittedly, we still have plenty of nice weather to enjoy, but make no mistake … winter is coming. And so is our legendary Michigan cold air, snow and … well, I don’t think we need to go on. The point is, now is the time to make sure your home’s HVAC system is ready. More specifically, is your furnace ready?

Mast Heating & Cooling is gearing up for another winter season, which means plenty of furnace maintenance, repair and even replacement for our customers. A noteworthy development took place earlier this summer when a federal mandate from the Department of Energy went into effect. The DOE now requires all manufacturers of new furnaces to equip the unit with an electronically commutated low-wattage motor (ECM).

This new fan will replace the split capacitor induction blower motors that have long been used in the industry. The mandate is a result of the DOE raising its furnace efficiency rating standards in an effort to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon pollution. For those in the market for a new furnace, you need to know that the initial cost of a new furnace may be higher than before due to the more expensive ECM fan. The good news is that the ECM fan furnaces will result in savings on energy bills and prolonged life expectancy for newer furnaces. Call Mast Heating & Cooling today for the lowdown on the ECM fan mandate as well as info on our hard-to-stop Trane furnaces.

If your furnace does not need replacing, the best way to keep it that way is regular HVAC maintenance. Mast Heating & Cooling can help you keep on schedule with membership in our Maintenance Plan, which includes twice-yearly system checkups, priority service and discounts on parts. You can also schedule a furnace tune-up to make sure your unit is ready for winter. Our technicians will inspect your furnace and make sure all its components – including burners and blowers – are operating safely and efficiently. Yes, winter is coming, we all know that. So make sure your furnace is ready for it by letting your friends at Mast Heating & Cooling check it out.
